This server is running the RedHat version
of Linux and the Apache Web server -- thanks to the many
people who have made them possible
They are free; they come with the source code and
lots of documentation; best of all, they are industry standard and they are
rock solid.
During my initial installation of RedHat Linux in late 1998, though I
rebooted several times, I only had
to reboot one time, and that was only after I had
thoroughly trashed the routing tables many times. On the
other hand, to get a functioning Linux to Windows network,
I had to reboot my Windows 98 machine at least
20 times, though the only change on the Windows 98
machine was some minor networking adjustments. I also had
to reboot my Windows NT/4 machine once for the same
reasons.
I have nothing against Microsoft products
because they have, in my opinion, an excellent user
interface and many superior programs (Access, Excel, ...).
However, if you want an industry standard, rock solid
server, Linux takes the hat.

I've put a number of documents online.
