Undoubtedly, you are sick and tired of hearing about the lack of stability of the Windows operating system. Just the same, lately, Microsoft has been extolling the virtues of their operating systems concerning stability. As a consequence, I expected nice improvements in my Windows Me system that came on my Sony Notebook that I recently bought (mid-2001).
Much to my surprise, it is rather easy to hard hang Windows Me. You simply need to connect it to a Windows 98R2 machine by a standard ethernet connection using Windows Networking, and from the Windows Me machine copy a 198 Megabyte directory to your Windows 98 machine. It hangs every time. This is a rather basic operation, though a somewhat large file transfer, so it is almost unbelievable. Initiating the transfer from the Win98 machine works without problems, indicating that Win Me has some fundamental problem traversing its own directory tree. :-( So much for Windows operating system stability.
